Royal attention for sustainable fisheries

In the scope of the state visit of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands to Norway several strategic Fisheries & Aquaculture meetings have taken place in Oslo and Bergen.

The recent Dutch state visit to Norway was all about fisheries: Where the interaction between the Energy and Fisheries sector was the main topic in Oslo activities, Bergen hosted a Royal round table and a multi-stakeholder debate on on sustainability. Representatives from Government, Acedemia and industry were present to give their opinion on collaboration and exchange of ideas between Norway and The Netherlands. The aim of this meeting was to exchange experiences and know how and to explore new ways for cooperation; the event was co- organised by IMR Bergen, Imares marine institute from the Netherlands, the Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries & Coastal Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality in the Netherlands and the Dutch Fisheries Innovation Platform. MareLife has taken the opportunity to put forward some of its member companies and projects that are worth sharing with the Netherlands. |

The MareLife concept was briefly presented and was invited to join a follow-up discussion the next day, when a a Dutch delegation of the Fisheries Innovation Platform and Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality visited Lerøy Fossen (salmon producer). Currently The Netherlands is exploring possibilities for establishing sector driven innovation in fisheries and has shown interest in the MareLife concept.
