Prof. Nils Chr. Stenseth honored by the French

NC Stenseth honoredFR2NC Stenseth honoredFRProfessor Nils Chr. Stenseth was appointed as a Chevalier (Knight) in the French National Order of the Legion of Honour

The French Legion of Honour (Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur) is the highest decoration in France, created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.

Stenseth was awarded a Chevalier (Knight) in recognition of his contributions to science and his involvement in French-Norwegian collaboration.

Stenseth was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by Brigitte Collet, Ambassador of France, during a ceremony at the Residence of France on December 2 in the presence of Tora Aasland, Minister of Research and Higher Education, as well as numerous representatives of the scientific community of Norway and the wife of Mr. Stenseth.

As professor at the University of Oslo, Nils Christian Stenseth specializes in statistical modeling of long-term ecological data. His work has enabled to link environmental factors to the cycles of migration of Arctic populations. Nils Christian Stenseth is a member of the French Academy of Sciences since 2005. He chaired the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters, and now heads the "Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis" (CEES).

The chair of Storby Marin, the network prolongation of the project MareLife Storby, Professor Olaf Styrvold, has taken place in the reference group of HAV21. HAV21 is the Governmental R&D plan for the marine sector which aims to bolster Norway’s position as a global leader in marine knowledge and management of marine resources and ocean areas.

Successful Biomarine Business Convention 2011
